CASS Certification
What is it? Why do you need it?
CASS--Coding Accuracy Support System--is a test
and certification system developed by the U.S.
Postal Service to determine if ZIP Code
software can accurately assign ZIP Codes to
mailing addresses. CASS-certified software
helps improve accuracy of carrier route,
5-digit ZIP, ZIP+4, and delivery point codes.
It's the first step in qualifying for
postage discounts.

Native Graphics, VNC, and Perl
Hey, David:
I am trying to get a servlet that builds
graphics files to run using WebSphere
Application Server on our iSeries so that
we can add graphs to some of our Web pages.
This servlet uses the Apache
XML project's Batik graphics package.
This works fine on an NT workstation running
WebSphere, but the iSeries JDK does not have
the java.awt package, which is necessary for
Batik to run.
Did you ever get this to work?

Keep Trailing Blanks on FTP Transfer from PC Client
Hey, David:
When I transfer a file via FTP from an
AS/400, oops, iSeries, to a PC, trailing blanks
are lopped off the end of each record. If I
want to keep trailing blanks, I use LOCSITE,
which is a command of the OS/400 client:
locsite trim 0
However, I want to do the transfer from a
PC client. How do I preserve trailing blanks
in that case?

active
and passive modes on OS/400 FTP.
I configured IP filtering on my AS/400,
which was FTP client of an FTP server on
