CLRPFM for the IFS

Use the Qshell null utility, represented by a colon (:) and redirect the standard output to the file. The following command clears file mydata.txt in the current directory:

:>mydata.txt

This is not an exact equivalent to CLRPFM, because the OS/400 IFS file will be created if it does not exist.

Here's another example in which the OS/400 IFS file, whose name is stored in variable &FILE, is cleared in a CL program.

DCL        VAR(&QCMD) TYPE(*CHAR) LEN(256) 
                                            
CHGVAR     VAR(&QCMD) VALUE(':>' *CAT &FILE)
