Unix Shells for Windows

Hey, Ted:

Recently, I needed to test a database--PostgreSQL--that required me to download and install cygwin on my PC.

Cygwin reminds me a lot of QShell on the iSeries. I found it very useful to be able to run and test a number of functions, such as sed, grep, and find, on my PC. Since you probably do that type of testing for your numerous Qshell tips, I thought I would pass along this tip.

Thank, David, for sharing this information with Midrange Guru readers.

Cygwin is a Unix environment for Windows, and it is available for download at http://www.cygwin.com/.

Another PC shell with which I am familiar is U/WIN, a Windows version of the Korn shell. You can find out more about it at http://www.wipro.com/uwin/.
