Reader Feedback and Insights: More Letters About "Why Java?"
Hey, Ted:
Regarding Gary's question, I suspect that IBM is pushing Java because it is so inefficient, requiring much more hardware to do the same job ["Reader Feedback and Insights: Why Java?"].
In my practice, I see e-RPG and Net.Data, but no Java other than the IBM-provided programs. In fact, I had one client look at iSeries Access for Web (provided by IBM) and discard it due to the load that just one session would put on their little AS/400. Java is just not cost-effective. HTTP server administration is in Java, and it is horribly slow. Likewise, Operations Navigator is used only for functions that are not available from the green screen.
