Here in our department, we don't use DDS anymore. We keep all of our tables, indexes, and views in a database model (ERwin) and generate them directly from the model.
The benefits derived from using a model are standardized domain names, schema diagrams, and centralized meta-data definitions. We can generate a complete database, using SQL statements, with one click of the mouse. Try doing that with DDS.

Thanks for writing, Kent. Your comparison is off the mark. The people who wrote ERwin could have had it generate DDS instead. The question is not ERwin versus DDS, but SQL versus DDS.
Anyway, it all boils down to this: It doesn't matter what anyone likes; IBM is putting its research dollars into SQL, so I am using it as much as I can.
