Reader Feedback and Insights: Reader Appreciates the Basics

Hey, Ted:

It's true that some of us are just coming to know the AS/400. In the 27 years I have worked as a programmer, I have gone from a Honeywell to a short stint as a mainframe type, then on to Data General, and for the last 12 years to a Tandem box. Almost 97 percent of what I wrote was COBOL.

Last November, I was downsized and took some classes at our local college in AS/400 operations, RPG IV, C++, and JavaScript. I was lucky enough to land this job, and I am learning as I go. I'll admit that I have a long way to go.

Thanks for letting me vent. I always look forward to Midrange Guru.

--Bob

Thanks for taking time to let me know, Bob. Every once in a while I run an "Odds and Ends" piece, in which I try to cover a lot of the basics.
