Intel Helps Fujitsu Build Big Xeon, Itanium Iron

Japanese server giant Fujitsu, which, with its alliance partner Siemens, has big aspirations in the Unix, Windows, and Linux enterprise server businesses, last week announced that it would be working with Intel to develop large Wintel and Lintel servers that will compete against Unix servers, including Fujitsu's and Siemens' own PrimePower Sparc-compatible machines. The future Fujitsu servers will be based on 32-bit Xeon and 64-bit Itanium processors and will be based in part on technology in the PrimePowers, which scale to 128 processors. READ MORE >

IBM Closes 2002, Glad It Ditched Some Units and Hopeful for 2003

Unless you are obsessed about economics or are an investor in Big Blue's stock, you probably don't much care how IBM does financially as each quarter winds down. Domino and WebSphere Wedding Date Draws Near

Firing arrows at what is clearly a Microsoft target, new Lotus chief Ambuj Goyal used the Lotusphere 2003 trade show to direct attention to his division's aim at infrastructure through open standards. Almost in the same breath, Goyal advised the Domino developer community to expect tools that will integrate "next generation" applications based on a common standards-based programming model and a single, open architecture.
