HP Outlines Its Future in IT with Adaptive Enterprise Strategy
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

Having survived the largest high-tech merger in history and dealt with one of the most complex IT infrastructure integration projects ever undertaken, the top brass at Hewlett-Packard earlier this month used the one-year anniversary of the HP acquisition of Compaq as a springboard to launch its strategy for enterprise computing, which the company calls the Adaptive Enterprise. by Timothy Prickett Morgan

Back in March, SCO Group launched a $1 billion lawsuit against IBM asserting that it had willfully distributed Unix intellectual property owned by SCO to the Linux community and had undermined the Unix market with anti-competitive business practices. Microsoft Licenses Unix from SCO Group
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

Everybody is wondering when and where the next shoe is going to drop as the recently litigious SCO Group is prowling around the operating system business looking for companies who have purportedly stolen the Unix intellectual property it owns. Microsoft has enough legal problems--including some with SCO back in the late 1990s--and has decided to license Unix from SCO. This is exactly the course of action that SCO wants all other platform providers to take. READ MORE >

by Timothy Prickett Morgan

Since the beginning of 2003, Sun Microsystems has committed to making major server and software announcements only once a quarter to simplify its product launches and save money. But Sun needs to move fast in the entry server market with its Solaris for X86 and Linux products, and it can&'t wait until the third quarter to do it. by Timothy Prickett Morgan

The company, Think Dynamics, is significant because it created a tool called ThinkControl that is based on Java and Web services standards and creates a pool of IT resources that can be allocated to applications dynamically based on policies set by business managers. As I See It: Softwareism and Countersoftwareism
by Victor Rozek

I love my home state. Beyond its natural splendor, it holds a special place in the social evolution of the nation. Oregon is a legislative gadfly. Oregon entertains more than its share of visionary and controversial legislation, including the first bottle bill, death with dignity, and universal medical coverage. A bill has been introduced in the Oregon state legislature that would force a degree of fiscal accountability on state agencies wishing to purchase software. READ MORE >
