Good News, Bad News: IT Workers Very Busy
by Timothy Prickett Morgan
My main job is to listen to what key IT vendors and users have to say about the problems companies face in their data centers and on their desktops every day. I can't count the number of times I have heard someone say over the past two years, "We have to do more with less." We're all living in this pressure cooker, from the largest multinational to the smallest mom-and-pop shop, and it's a testament to human nature that we keep moving, and not just for the door. Gartner Positions Server Platforms with Magic Quadrant
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

Big Blue Hits SCO with Countersuit
by Timothy Prickett Morgan
We've been waiting for IBM to react in a significant way to the lawsuit that The SCO Group filed against it in March, and IBM's lawyers have finally stepped up to the plate with a countersuit that alleges, among other things, that SCO has violated IBM patents and the GNU General Public License, under which SCO it distributed its own brand of Linux. The IT Fab Four Love Linux, Says DH Brown Study
by Timothy Prickett Morgan
Linux may be getting a bad rap because of concerns with the SCO-IBM and Red Hat-SCO lawsuits, but the most recent study put together by D.H. Brown Associates, which has earned itself a name in recent years by providing comparisons of the popular server computing platforms, doesn't indicate that the bloom is off the Linux rose as far as IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, and Sun Microsystems are concerned. Shaking IT Up: Putting QA to the Test
by Kevin Vandever
Are you testing your software before promoting it into production? More specifically, beyond unit or programmer testing, do you use an internal quality assurance department to test your software before it gets promoted into production? If so, you are probably wasting time and money. You are just as well off promoting your software into production right after a clean compile. READ MORE >
