Intel Debuts New Itanium 2s, AMD New Opterons

It was a busy time last week for Intel and Advanced Micro Devices. Both companies rolled out two new 64-bit processors aimed at the workstation and server markets, to help them better compete against others in the chip market in general and against each other in the X86 market in particular. Two HP Server Execs Throw in the Towel

The heat is on in Hewlett-Packard's Enterprise Systems Group, which is the main reason why the company did not make its numbers in the latest quarter. HP's competitors are, of course, making the rounds trying to drum up stories that suggest that the departure of Howard Elias, who was named as senior vice president of business operations and management for the newly created Enterprise Systems Group back in May, was due to HP's missed numbers. Vision Ships Orion, Industry's First Cross-Platform HA

After two years of development, Vision Solutions last week began shipping Orion, the computer industry's first high availability suite for multiple platforms. EDI Providers Support UCCnet with New Products, Services

EDI software providers EXTOL and Sterling Commerce last week launched their solutions for UCCnet, the initiative to synchronize product data between retailers and manufacturers. EXTOL announced a new solution called EXTOL UCCnet Integrator, which connects its EDI users to UCCnet's own software package, called Data Synchronization Services, while Sterling Commerce has partnered with a third-party software developer, HAHT Commerce, to connect its users to the UCCnet GLOBALregistry.
