Microsoft Talks Up Various Middleware Initiatives at MEC

Microsoft held its annual Microsoft Exchange Conference in Anaheim, California last week just as we were going to press, and the company was trying to make the best of the fact that it does not yet have its core Windows .NET Server 2003 operating system out the door. HP Says It Will Be First Out the Door with Gallatin Xeons

Hewlett-Packard this week said that it would be the first vendor to get servers out the door supporting Intel's future "Gallatin" Pentium 4 Xeon MP processors as it rolled out two new servers. The Gallatin chips are the kickers to the "Foster" Xeon MP, and both chips are designed to be used in machines with four or more processors and which have workloads that crave large L2 cache memories. Dell, EMC Partner on CX400 Clariion Disk Arrays

Server maker Dell and disk storage array vendor EMC have announced a new midrange disk array, the CX400, that the two companies will co-market into midrange server shops. The CX400 is a follow-on to the Clariion FC4700 arrays that the two companies have been selling since last year and are a streamlined version of the CX600 arrays that debuted earlier this year. Stalker Creeps Up on Microsoft with Exchange Replacement

Stalker Software announced new software last week that allows its CommuniGate Pro e-mail server to function as a groupware server. CommuniGate Pro Groupware gives users the same types of collaboration, calendar, and scheduling capabilities they enjoy with Microsoft Exchange, but doesn't require them to run it on Windows servers and is cheaper to buy and support. The new groupware functionality, like the CommuniGate Pro e-mail server, supports Microsoft Outlook clients as well. READ MORE >
