Top OS/400 Stories from Around the Web
(Guild Companies) After teasing us with that mysterious flashing red gem advertising campaign for weeks, Bytware has unveiled StandGuard Anti-Virus, the OS/400 platform's first and only native virus scanning engine. StandGuardAV is designed to find and eliminate Windows viruses that infect files in OS/400's Integrated File System. If you did not realize the IFS has been an unwitting, but nearly perfect, host to viruses since its inception, you are not alone.
(InternetWeek) E-mail administrators sound off on the problems caused by spam. Among the top concerns are fears that spam may lead to hostile-workplace lawsuits and additional staff costs. This article is one of a three-part series on spam.
(Guild Companies) International logistics operator Kuehne & Nagel is the first OS/400 shop to report exceptional results using a relatively new data caching technology to speed high availability replication across a WAN. The move prevented a need for the addition of two T-1 lines to connect its primary and backup OS/400 servers in the United States and Canada.
(TechWeb) Market researcher Gartner has stated that sales of supply chain management software fell 20.5 percent last year, registering at $2.1 billion in 2002, compared with $2.7 billion in 2001. SAP has the largest market share in this space, followed by i2 Technologies, Oracle, Ariba, and Manugistics.
(iSeries Network) The tangled J.D. Edwards-PeopleSoft-Oracle acquisition is but one of a series of mergers and acquisitions in the enterprise software marketplace, including SSA Global Technologies' acquisition of Baan and Manhattan Associates' purchase of ReturnCentral. Here's an article that analyzes the trend and speculates that Lawson Software could be bought by Baan/SSA.
(iSeries Network) The Oracle-PeopleSoft-J.D. Edwards drama keeps getting more interesting. PeopleSoft is buying up more shares of J.D. Edwards this week, in hopes of completing its deal by July 17. Oracle has raised its all-cash offer to $19.50 per share. And Intentia is making a play for J.D. Edwards' customers in the midst of all the commotion.
(CNET News.com) According to a recent poll of J.D. Edwards customers taken by Quest, respondents overwhelmingly opposed Oracle's takeover bid for PeopleSoft and backed the proposed merger with PeopleSoft.
(InformationWeek) The SCO Group issued a letter to many of its customers, which it also posted on its Web site, stating that SCO Linux customers are not liable for any actions SCO takes against the Linux community. However an SCO spokesman noted the same cannot be said for Linux distributions purchased from other vendors.

(IBM) Draft Redpaper -- Data sorting considerations with Lotus Enterprise Integrator (LEI) 6 on the IBM eServer iSeries server provides information on solving LEI sorting problems when UDB DB2 data is retrieved into a Domino for iSeries implementation. This paper discusses the problem that occurs when Domino sorts data on an ASCII sort sequence, in which numeric characters are sorted first, then alpha characters.
