Top OS/400 Stories from Around the Web
(Guild Companies) IBM's iSeries team and its Small and Medium Business marketing unit have teamed up to launch a new $10 million campaign to help independent software vendors peddle products in Europe.
(Guild Companies) In today's tight economy, with companies hesitant to spend on IT, IBM is introducing a low-rate financing deal and a deferred-payment deal, with tweaks aimed specifically at iSeries buyers.
(Guild Companies) Intel recently announced its third generation of high-end 64-bit Itanium processors, the so-called "Madison" chip, and has debuted faster "Gallatin" Pentium 4 Xeon MP processors that are used in four-way and larger Intel servers. While these processors will not be used inside iSeries servers themselves, somewhere between 75 and 80 percent of OS/400 shops also have Intel-based machines, and could wind up in IBM's iSeries Integrated xSeries Servers (IxS) in the next few years.
(Guild Companies) IBM began shipping WebSphere Application Server 5.0.2, which runs in Linux partitions on iSeries and pSeries hardware. WAS 5.0.2 is the first time WebSphere has been supported in Linux environments running Power4 chips.
(The 400 Group) Conspiracy theory alert: Is IBM the driving force behind FAST/400, the CFINT-busting tool. Since no one knows the true identity of FAST/400's developers, at least one iSeries consultant is pointing the finger at Big Blue.
(eWeek) PeopleSoft on Wednesday locked in the price it would pay for the acquisition of J.D. Edwards. The company announced that it would pay close to $14.75 in cash, or 0.8243 of a PeopleSoft common share for each JDE share. The deal was to be finalized by midnight Thursday. The acquisition creates the second largest enterprise software provider in the world, jumping ahead of Oracle but still trailing SAP.
(eWeek) The Justice Department cleared the way for PeopleSoft to acquire J.D. Edwards by approving the deal this week. On the other hand, antitrust regulators are blocking Oracle's pursuit of PeopleSoft by demanding more information about how Oracle's planned takeover of PeopleSoft would affect the market.
