Top OS/400 Stories from Around the Web

(Guild Companies) IBM and Adobe extended their partnership last week with a new agreement to further integrate Adobe's PDF forms software with IBM's middleware stack, beginning with DB2 Content Manager. The deal also covers a similar offering designed specifically for SAP environments.
(iSeries Network) IBM introduced the GreenStreak II promotion, which involves three main promotions worldwide. Two of the promotions--Power of Zero, a plan for no payments and no interest until 2004, and the iSeries dedicated Model iSeries 810 high availability offer--have already been announced. The third promotion focuses on xSeries server integration and storage consolidation.
(iSeries 400 Experts) IBM has acquired the application porting services business from Sector7, a privately held software application services company. This could be a significant announcement because IBM had previously announced an agreement with Sector7 to build offerings based around HP3000-to-iSeries migration, and HP plans to end support for the HP 3000 platform in January 2007.
(Computerworld) In a campaign launched by members of J.D. Edwards' and PeopleSoft's World user advisory panel, users of J.D. Edwards World ERP applications are mobilizing to lobby PeopleSoft to keep the functionality of JDE's aging green-screen software from falling behind PeopleSoft's other products.
(Computerworld) The new CEO of Peregrine Systems, John Mutch, spoke with the press about what is working for his company and what still needs to be fixed since Peregrine recently emerged from bankruptcy.
(Computerworld) PeopleSoft President and CEO Craig Conway discussed the company's financial results and why the acquisition of J.D. Edwards prevented it from turning a profit. Conway also talked about PeopleSoft's efforts to fend off Oracle's hostile takeover bid.
(CNET News.com) In its lawsuit against IBM, The SCO Group is challenging the General Public License, which is the legal foundation of Linux, a large number of open-source programming projects, and even some software that SCO still ships today.
(eWeek) The Defense Department will require its suppliers to deploy RFID tags by January 2005, the same date that Wal-Mart stores plan to deploy the technology in the commercial space.
(ZDNet) IBM announced hardware, software, and services developed to help customers deal with growing regulatory requirements, including the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, the USA Patriot Act, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
(Computerworld) John Swainson, IBM's general manager of application development and integration, said Big Blue plans to release an enterprise service bus next year, and that this enterprise-class bus would "attach everything to everything."

Vendor Announcements, Promotions, And Deals

(Guild Companies) Attachmate will start shipping its myEXTRA! Presentation Builder, which lets managers streamline user access to specific parts of applications, even if the manager doesn't have technical skills. The company also announced limited availability of a new product that it says will eliminate thousands of keystrokes per day for its emulator users.
(Guild Companies) Enterprise application integration vendor CommerceQuest is integrating its software with TRAXION BPMS Version 7.2. According to CommerceQuest, the various components of its business process management suite are based on a common infrastructure.
(Guild Companies) In conjunction with Crossroads Systems, EMC is offering its customers Crossroads' technology that allows iSeries servers to directly connect with EMC's next-generation Symmetrix DMX arrays, via Fibre Channel. This new capability gives customers more advanced data replication and disaster recovery options than before.
(eWeek) Hyperion Solutions detailed the beginning of its product integration plans involving the technology it acquired in its takeover of Brio Software. This move will help Hyperion extend its offerings from business performance management into business intelligence.
(Search400) IBM announced two deals with Intentia and Engineous Software. Intentia will integrate Movex with Big Blue's WebSphere and DB2 products. The agreement with Engineous will provide Product Lifecycle Management capabilities to small and midsized businesses.
(IBM) IBM announced that WebSphere Host Access Transformation Services Version 5 for the iSeries will be available for electronic software delivery on December 19, and the media pack has a planned availability of January 30, 2004.
(IBM) IBM is offering rebates when you order disk drives along with an integrated xSeries server or an integrated xSeries adapter. Orders must be received before November 28 and invoiced no later than December 31.
(Guild Companies) Logility has delivered support for radio frequency identification (RFID) technology with the warehouse management component of Voyager Solutions 7.0, the newest version of its supply chain planning and execution suite for OS/400, Windows, and Unix servers.
(Guild Companies) Qualcomm and Aether Systems, the two biggest developers of OS/400-based truck communications systems, respectively introduced enhancements to their OMNITracs and MobileMax systems that will give truckers access to e-mail and faster connections to dispatch systems while on the road.
