Welcome to Midrange Programmer, OS/400 Edition
by Timothy Prickett Morgan
As president, publisher, and editor-in-chief of Guild Companies,
it is my job and my joy to introduce the new publications we bring to market. Welcome
to the OS/400 edition of Midrange Programmer, our how-to advice and free-code
newsletter.
Midrange Programmer is co-edited by Shannon O'Donnell and Kevin Vandever,
two OS/400 experts who don't just write about the technology used on
OS/400 today--they have day jobs at AS/400 and iSeries shops and suffer
the same frustrations in deploying new software technologies that you do.
The contributing editors to Midrange Programmer--Howard Arner, Joe Hertvik, Ted
Holt, David Morris, Richard Shaler--are also heavy-hitters in using and deploying new
technologies on the OS/400 platform.
We will be ramping up our technical editorial staff in short order as this publication grows, and we hope to cover all the important issues that
you are facing today, to provide you a free publication that you can use in your
day-to-day work.
Like myself, the editors of Midrange Programmer enjoy talking about different
theories of computing and different approaches to building applications. But what all of
these people really like is rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands dirty; finding
bugs and getting around them; helping their companies to create better applications and to
do a better job of administering their OS/400 platforms. Through their experiences, as
well as those of the contributing editors they will work with, they can help you. And they
will.
Midrange Programmer was established with the idea of covering the meat-and-
potatoes issues you face every day. It is a hands-on publication that gives you detailed
advice and experience that you can put to work in your OS/400 shop today. We're all
thrilled to be able to make this happen, and we hope you enjoy the publication.
Midrange Programmer will come out every other week for now. But it is our goal
to bring it out weekly as soon as we can. Let us know what you think about Midrange
Programmer and what we can do to improve it. Our e-mails are always open.
