Calling Java from RPG: Beyond the Basics
by Kevin Vandever
In "Prototyping and Calling Java Methods from RPG," I discussed the new features available in V5R1 to allow you to call Java methods from RPG using the Java Native Interface (JNI). I have heard from many of you out there who have either tried the technique in that article or wanted to try it, but, in either case, still had some questions. by Marc Logemann
Many iSeries programmers are not used to worrying about the distribution of software, because native RPG software runs in a host mode. This means the software is on the server and all clients call the same software on the server again and again. The result is that only the screen output will be transferred to the client. The design is so good that companies like Citrix Systems make a good living by "recreating" this host feeling on windows when it comes to software. READ MORE >

An Alternative Method of Serving Web Pages from AS/400
by Shannon O'Donnell
What ever happened to good old days of DDS and RPG? Sadly, especially for those who refuse, or are unable, to learn, the days of 5250 and RPG programming are ending fast.
