Migration Tool Vendor Adds Support for RPG IV by Alex Woodie California Software last week announced that it has developed an RPG IV compiler for the Windows, Unix, and Linux platforms. AS/400 and iSeries shops that have developed in the newest version of RPG can now use California Software's compilers and migration tools to move their RPG IV programs to their choice of platforms while maintaining a single set of source code in RPG IV.
California Software is the largest provider of migration tools for the OS/400 platform. Last January, following a failed merger and a protracted legal battle with Unibol, which had developed a suite of migration tools that competed with California Software's BABY/iSeries and BABY/36 tools, California Software won a favorable court ruling that gave it worldwide distribution rights for the Unibol products. The new RPG IV compilers are available with BABY/iSeries Version 9, which is really based on the Unibol 400 code that California Software acquired from Unibol last year. California Software president Carol Conway says the company renamed the Unibol 400 product line to BABY/iSeries with the release of BABY/iSeries version 8.0 last March. It is not clear what happened to the original BABY/iSeries product line, which supported migrations only to Windows; Unibol 400 supported Unix and Linux in addition to Windows. California Software also last month announced new releases of its BABY/GUI and LPS Loan Production System products. BABY/GUI 4.32, which is currently shipping, provides "significant enhancements" for California Software's Unibol and BABY customers who need to create GUIs out of a green screen, the company said. The company also plans to release a new servicing module for its LPS system at some point in the future. California Software currently offers LPS modules for mortgage, auto, consumer, and collections systems. For more information, go to www.calsw.com.
