Plasmon to Bring Ultra Density Optical Technology to iSeries

IBM and Plasmon, a British manufacturer of high-end removable storage, announced last week that they have agreed to bring Plasmon's ultra density optical (UDO) technology to the iSeries. UDO is a new storage technology that Plasmon is developing to satisfy a surge in data archiving capacity that is expected to occur as a result of new federal regulations affecting the financial, healthcare, and pharmaceutical industries. iTera Unveils Major New Release of Purge & Archive

iTera last week announced that the newest version of its Purge & Archive data management tool, V2R1, features major improvements in helping users choose the right data to archive. The new release features several enhancements, including a new data selection interface, a "mock purge" function, and new data grouping functions, designed to increase the product's effectiveness. Help/Systems Ships SAP Interface for Robot/SCHEDULE

Companies running ERP software from SAP on an iSeries server can now automate their ERP system's jobs using OS/400-based scheduling software from Help/Systems. Last week, Help/Systems announced the availability of its new Robot/SCHEDULE interface to SAP, which gives Help/Systems users expanded capabilities to incorporate SAP jobs with processes occurring on other applications, even if they're running on non-OS/400 platforms. Shield Updates FTP Security Tool

FTP, or File Transfer Protocol, is one of the most useful protocols the Internet Gods have provided. However, given FTP's open-source nature and its ubiquity, it also represents a serious security threat, especially for critical data being sent in an OS/400 network. The Ontario, Canada, software company Shield Advanced Solutions provides a utility called FTP Security Manager/400 that lets administrators control who has access to iSeries-based FTP.
