SEAGULL Adds MQSeries Support to Transidiom

by Joe Hertvik

SEAGULL's recently announced that it has added the MQSeries Communication Manager feature to its Transidiom server software, the company's XML, Java, and Component Object Model interface solution for mainframe and midrange application integration.

The new feature provides MQSeries adapters that customers can use to enable MQSeries-to-iSeries and mainframe legacy application communication without modifying underlying application code.

Tramenco
SEAGULL pulls this trick off by using the Transidiom server to handle the interface between iSeries and mainframe applications and MQSeries message queues. MQSeries messages are delivered to Transidiom in SEAGULL's XML schema format or in another user-defined format. Transidiom's MQSeries Communication Manager translates MQSeries messages into requests for IBM host functions (for iSeries and AS/400 applications, Transidiom uses the 5250 interface for program communication). Transidiom acts as the middleman for MQSeries-to-iSeries and mainframe communication, sending MQSeries information to the host application for processing and returning the appropriate responses to MQSeries in the desired format. And in addition to its new MQSeries capabilities, Transidiom can also capture information from legacy applications and transform and feed it into XML, Java, or COM interfaces. According to SEAGULL, these interfaces can be integrated with other applications across different platforms to create new composite applications, or they can be deployed as Web services.

The MQSeries Communication Manager feature is included when you purchase the Transidiom 2.1 server. Pricing for Version 2.1 is based on its host server environment and begins at $40,000. Transidiom Version 2.1 is also available to current customers at no charge, provided they have a SEAGULL maintenance contract.

Although IBM's MQSeries product line is being rebranded as the WebSphere MQSeries, customers do not need to be running the WebSphere Application Server to use Transidiom's MQSeries support. On the iSeries platform, MQSeries for AS/400 Version 5.1 (5738-A38) or higher is supported with the Transidiom V2.1 solution, although iSeries and AS/400 customers to do not need to have MQSeries installed to use Transidiom's MQSeries support.
