IBM Repositions WebFacing to Convert Interactive Apps to Batch
by Alex Woodie
IBM's new interactive pricing policy for 5250 iSeries applications is pretty much an all-or-nothing proposition: Either pony up the big bucks for OS/400 Enterprise Edition and get unlimited 5250 CPWs or convert 5250 apps to batch and run OS/400 Standard Edition, which will be cheaper than Enterprise but won't support 5250 apps. To encourage companies to choose the latter, and break the green-screen habit, IBM has made a change that allows its WebFacing tool to convert 5250 apps to run in batch. READ MORE >

Bytware Clamping Down on OS/400 Security Exposures
by Alex Woodie
Bytware is ramping up its security initiative with a new white paper, free access to its OS/400 auditing tool, and a new release of its OS/400 security policy management and enforcement system, StandGuard 2.3. The assortment of information and tools is designed to help companies first identify where their OS/400 server is most exposed, design a security policy that calls for gradually ratcheting up protection, then enforce those policies to eliminate unwanted access from both within and outside of the company. DCSoftware's Wizard Throttles Back on Hungry File Reorgs
by Alex Woodie
DCSoftware last week launched the ReorgWizard, a new OS/400 file reorganization utility that gives users greater control over the amount of resources consumed by file reorganization. Instead of falling victim to file reorganizations that incur substantial overhead and deteriorate overall system performance over a period of hours or days, administrators can slow file reorganization to one file per second, without requiring users to log off the system. New J.D. Edwards Bundles Cut iSeries ERP Install Times in Half
by Alex Woodie
OS/400 ERP giant J.D. Edwards & Company last week announced it will be delivering a series of application bundles that can be up and running on iSeries servers in half the time it normally takes. J.D. Edwards says the three new bundles for manufacturing, distribution, and financial operations will include "business process templates" that provide preconfigured technical setup support for the company's latest J.D. Edwards 5 suite of software on iSeries servers. The new modules are slated to ship in March. READ MORE >

Can't figure out LAN/WAN line service time? Don't know their IP addresses anyway? ONLY $99!! TestIP/400 can give you relief!!
Why TestIP/400? Because there is no other HOST AS/400 way to determine the response component of the LAN/WAN itself to the overall response time users are seeing. TIP/400 uses low-level APIs to determine the IP addresses, rather than the user needing to know them. LAN/WAN responses times are shown via barcharts for min/avg/max to the user's terminal from the central AS/400 system.

ProData Shares the Source with RPG IV Templates
by Alex Woodie
ProData Computer Services got its start 28 years ago migrating System/3s to System/38s. Along the way, the S/38 evolved into the iSeries, and ProData's founders learned a couple of tricks and wrote a few programs, such as Data Base Utility (DBU), that allowed them to serve their customers better. Over time, the Omaha, Nebraska, company started selling its software, always providing the source code. This month, the company has issued its latest batch of programmer productivity tools, RPGIV Templates. READ MORE >
