AS/400 Screen Saver Shields Sensitive Data
by Alex Woodie
Kisco Information Systems last week introduced a new
security solution designed to help prevent unauthorized viewing of AS/400 screens. ScreenSafer/400
behaves much like a regular screen saver in a PC environment, in that it kicks in after a period of idle time
and displays colorful animation that hides the original screen. However, ScreenSafer/400 adds an element
of security by requiring users to enter their password to resume their session, and doesn't interrupt the user's
session.

Five Minutes with SSA GT's Graeme Cooksley
by Alex Woodie
System Software Associates, once a proud provider of ERP software for the OS/400 platform, suffered
deeply as a result of the post-Y2K spending lockdown. The public company fell into bankruptcy in 2000
and was eventually reborn as a private company, SSA Global
Technologies. But questions remained concerning the vendor's viability in the new e-business era.
During a recent interview, Graeme Cooksley, SSA GT's executive vice president of global sales and
marketing, explained the company's transformation strategy.

Touchtone Debuts Wireless CRM Offering
by Alex Woodie
If your company requires sales staff or support personnel to use customer relationship management software
out in the field, you know how difficult it can be sometimes to synchronize the work done offline with the
CRM database back at the office. To that end, Touchtone
recently announced a new solution that allows field personnel to log on to a Wintouch eCRM server, using a
common cell phone modem installed in a laptop PC, and maintain real-time contact with the CRM server indefinitely.

JDE Releases New Asset Management Application
by Alex Woodie
J.D. Edwards has started shipping a new enterprise asset management
application that will, says JDE, save companies money by synchronizing operations requirements with planned
maintenance to avoid unplanned shutdowns and extend the life of field equipment and plant assets. The enterprise software
vendor previously offered EAM functionality as a component of its ERP suites--WorldSoftware (for OS/400) and OneWorld
(for OS/400, Unix, and Windows); this is the first time JDE has marketed EAM as a stand-alone application.
