Damon Technologies Ships Web Development Tool, RPG Server Pages
by Alex Woodie
A new wrinkle for developing dynamic Web applications on OS/400 servers was introduced last month by Damon Technologies. The company's product, RPG Server Pages (RSP), allows developers to create dynamic Web content by inserting RPG code directly into HTML tags. Company officials say RSP speeds the development of refined-looking OS/400-based Web pages by avoiding what they term as the "clunky" nature of CGI techniques. They also believe RSP will be well-received because it eliminates the need for programmers to learn natively graphical languages like Java. READ MORE >

BCD Adds 'Intelligent Routing' Feature to Catapult 4.0
by Alex Woodie
Taking its cue from Big Blue, Business Computer Design Int'l has included some "autonomic"-like features in the latest release of Catapult, its OS/400 spool-file splitting, conversion, and distribution utility. In Version 4.0, announced at the COMMON show in Indianapolis last week, BCD introduced what it calls intelligent routing, which allows Catapult to automatically split a report and send the segments to the appropriate printer, fax, or e-mail address, or save them to OS/400's Integrated File System. SoftLanding Delivers Change Management Plug-Ins for WDSc
by Dan Burger
RPG programmers in the midst of Web application projects often struggle with the task of handling large quantities of non-native files. It's sort of like trying to juggle chain saws, alligators, or hand grenades--there's a lot of risk involved. For those making the RPG-to-Web transition in the WebSphere Development Studio integrated development environment, a set of change management plug-ins are now available that simplify the complexity of managing multiple-platform, multiple-team development contributions. iSeries Terminal Business Alive and Well
by Joe Hertvik and Timothy Prickett Morgan
With the PC revolution some 20 years old and the Web revolution about 10 years old, you would think that there would be very little interest in user terminals these days. You would be wrong. Terminal vendors continue to evolve their products to make them relevant in a Web-enabled world and to make them useful to companies that deploy host-based OS/400 applications on iSeries and AS/400 servers. And they are making their terminals less expensive, too. READ MORE >
