CommerceQuest Rides MQSeries with File Transfer Software
by Alex Woodie

IBM's message queue software, WebSphere MQ, provides a fault-tolerant approach to ensuring that transactions flowing between business applications do not get lost during the exchange. However, when it comes to transferring large numbers of files, there is no generally accepted standard that can duplicate what WebSphere MQ does for transactions. To fill this need, CommerceQuest writes software that enables bulk data transfers using the WebSphere MQ architecture. Last week CommerceQuest enhanced the software with the announcement of Version 7 of enableNet Data Integrator.

WebSphere Developers Offered New Change Management Option
by Dan Burger

Companies that build, deploy, and integrate e-business applications using IBM WebSphere are faced with preparing essential e-business functions that handle transactions and extend back-end business data and applications to the Web. In iSeries and AS/400 shops, WebSphere applications are dependent upon iSeries data. The applications frequently use RPG, COBOL, and ILE programs for back-end processing power. During development, the applications' iSeries components must be managed in tandem with all other WebSphere components.

Your Check Is No Longer in the Mail
by Dan Burger

The old standby excuse "your check is in the mail" is on its way out. Electronic payment continues to make inroads as companies search for ways to reduce costs and speed the pay process internally and among their business partners. The trend toward electronic payment usually begins in a company's payroll processing and proceeds outward to its customers and suppliers, says Dennis Murray, a partner in the market research firm Intelligencia.

AS/400 shops now have more deployment options for using Jacada's legacy integration tool, Integrator, to connect older OS/400 applications with newer Web applications such as CRM. ASNA Announces New NT-to-iSeries Database Tool
by Dan Burger

Connecting Web and Windows applications to line-of-business databases, such as DB2, is a prickly situation. Windows and OS/400 developers are not usually the best of friends, and because there hasn't been much demand for tools that make such connections, developers often find themselves in a predicament. But there's an object-based API on the horizon for developers building Web and Windows applications that rely on data from IBM iSeries and AS/400s, Microsoft SQL Servers, or ASNA Acceler8DB databases on Windows NT/2K servers and Windows desktops.
