ResQNet Goes to Version 4 with ResQPortal
by Shannon O'Donnell
Last week at the COMMON spring conference in Nashville, Tennessee, ResQNet announced ResQPortal Version 4, the newest version of the
New York City company's legacy rejuvenation tool for Web-enabling mainframe or OS/400 applications
and data. With this version, ResQNet debuts the Remote Customization Studio, a new component that the
company says allows developers to more quickly customize green-screen iSeries applications with HTML
front ends, and to do so without involving PCs in the development process.
The Remote Customization Studio runs in a Web browser and gives developers the capability to work
directly from the server when customizing default HTML GUI screens generated from host data. This
means developers can now instantly view the effects of changes and revisions in a real-time environment,
without having to go back and forth between the PC workstation used for development and the host AS/400
or iSeries system, the company says.
The new server-based customization also speeds the migration of files and folders by eliminating
intermediary file transfers to the local PC. The new split screen IDE also allows the developer to instantly
compare old to new when customizing application panels.
Other new features announced with this version include a new session configuration dialog box for
managing multiple ResQPortal customizations, a new password system for restricting application editing
privileges, new color display options for sprucing up generated screens, direct access to host data in matrix
format, a new auto-skip function for advancing the cursor to the next field, and a Tab sequence feature.
