GROUP Fights Creative Spam with New Content Recognition Engine

The war against spam, like the war against terrorism, is an unwinnable war. The total eradication of unsolicited e-mail, no matter how desirable it may seem, is an untenable goal. In lieu of absolute victory, anti-spam forces focus on containing spam and outwitting the spammers, who continually adapt their techniques to sneak through spam defenses. This is the approach taken by GROUP Technologies, which recently equipped its anti-spam software with new content-recognition technology that, the company says, adapts to new forms of spam better than prevailing methods. DataMirror Updates Replication Software with New Monitor, API

DataMirror yesterday began shipping a major new version of Transformation Server, its software for replicating data between major database management systems. The two most important enhancements that the Toronto, Ontario, software company delivered with Transformation Server 5.1 are a Java-based interface, giving administrators a dashboard-like view of the current state of data replication occurring across the network, and a redesigned communications layer that brings a single API and a simpler method for accessing data on all supported platforms. JBM Systems Adds Report Bursting to PDF Conversion Utility

Companies looking to gain more flexibility in the way they distribute, store, and view printed reports may want to take a look at new software recently released by JBM Systems. The Peabody, Massachusetts, software company has introduced a new version of its inexpensive OctoPDF conversion software that includes new encryption, watermark, and distribution features. JBM Systems has also introduced a companion product to OctoPDF, called OctoBurst, which allows companies to perform "report bursting," or splitting of large reports into smaller segments based on specified control breaks. Kisco Tool Keeps Query/400 in Tune with Changes to the Database
