Sheriff's AS/400 App Goes Thin and Wireless

Sheriff's deputies in Arapahoe County, Colorado, had reason to dislike the way they received information on the criminal histories of people they just pulled over. They would call a dispatcher over the radio and ask him to search the county's AS/400 database. The dispatcher then reported, over the radio, the results of the search. The problem was that violent criminals might overhear the report, putting the deputy in a potentially hairy situation. READ MORE >

Precosis Has an Interactive Workload Monitor, Too

Two weeks ago, we brought you news of a new tool from Storage Solutions Group called FastAct, which allows you to see how much of your OS/400 server's interactive processing capabilities are being blocked by the CFINT governor and therefore could be reclaimed by the company's Fast400 interactive governor buster. Since then, we've been alerted to the availability of a tool from Australian shareware provider Precosis that does much the same thing as FastAct, only it doesn't cost as much. READ MORE >

Sterling Commerce is planning to give away its new Gentran Integration Suite to current users of its EDI (electronic data interchange) software for OS/400, OS/390, Unix, and Windows, the Columbus, Ohio, company has announced. PowerTech Introduces Centralized Security Management
