New Trucking App from Qualcomm Tracks Untethered Trailers
by Alex Woodie

Qualcomm is best known as the high-flying developer of advanced technology used in millions of cellular phones around the world. But the roots of the San Diego, California, company's success lie in a much less glamorous industry: interstate trucking. Since 1988, Qualcomm has been developing systems that combine cellular, satellite, and IBM midrange technology to track and monitor trucks, and last month the federal government gave Qualcomm the go-ahead to field-test its latest product, an untethered-trailer tracking system. PowerTech Expanding Reach of Network Security Product
by Dan Burger

Perimeter security doesn't work. But wait. Don't unplug those firewalls and routers and throw them in the closet. You can't do without them. Did you know that for every 12 filing cabinets added to an organization, one additional employee must be hired, on average, to maintain them? This statistic, from a study by PricewaterhouseCoopers (now an IBM consulting division), seems right up Help/Systems' alley, and a new release of that company's OS/400 report management system, Robot/REPORTS, make its distribution and archiving capabilities even easier to use.
