Lazy Software Targets Scalability with Sentences 3.0

Lazy Software recently issued several enhancements to Sentences, its radically different database management system for rapidly developing Internet applications. With Sentences Version 3.0, which is scheduled to ship this month, Lazy Software says it has greatly improved scalability compared with previous versions. Other announcements include the introduction of a Sentences add-on called LazyView, which aggregates data from relational databases, and the development of a new online analytical processing (OLAP) add-on by a business partner. Host Access Vendors Focus on Flexible Deployment Options

Rapid rollouts and multiple deployment options are what the Web-to-host marketplace is all about these days. Several vendors of host access middleware products have recently updated their offerings with new capabilities geared toward giving customers more flexibility, including the ability maintaining their green screens alongside newly developed GUI screens. CA Delivers EJB Support with New Releases of 2E and Plex

Developers who use Computer Associates' advanced set of programming tools for OS/400 and Windows now have another deployment option: Enterprise JavaBeans. Earlier this month the computer software giant announced that the most recent releases of its fourth-generation language (4GL) and template-based development tools, Advantage 2E 8.0 and Advantage Plex 5.1, now support the automatic generation of EJBs, in addition to generating source in native OS/400 3GLs, such as C++ and RPG. From MOLAP to HOLAP: Big Blue Updates OS/400 BI Software

IBM last week announced a new release of its business intelligence offering for the OS/400 platform. With DB2 OLAP Server for iSeries Version 8.1, IBM is delivering performance enhancements--including the capability to run part of a data cube on a relational database management system--for improved scalability. IBM says that, as a result of incorporating relational online analytical processing (ROLAP) capabilities, the product has changed from being a strictly multidimensional OLAP (MOLAP) application to a hybrid OLAP (HOLAP) application. Computer Keyes Tunes Fax and E-mail Software

The latest enhancements in its line of automated fax and e-mail systems for iSeries and AS/400s have been introduced by Computer Keyes. KeyesFax Version 9.0, first released in March, now includes support for Class 2.0 fax communication. Class 2.0 fax has more reliability than Class 1, resulting in fewer lost connections. Those shopping for fax systems should note that there is an important distinction between Class 2.0, which is a defined standard, and Class 2, a non-standard proprietary fax specification.
