It's mid-December, and that special time of the year is just around the corner. That's right, tax year 2003 is coming to a close, and your accounting department will soon be asked to submit employee tax information to the IRS. Fear not: Acclaim Software has announced that the 2003 versions of OS/400 tax software are now shipping. W-2 Magnetic Media and 1099 Magnetic Media both integrate directly with your OS/400 data through a self-generating RPG import program (no programming required) and support a number of features, such as help screens and verification reports. Both packages also support state tax reporting and provide several output options, including generation of paper forms or output to diskettes, tapes, and electronic filing. A license fee for either of these packages costs $695, which also gets you a manual and technical support over the phone and the Web. For more information, go to www.acclaim-software.com.

Bicycle maker Cannondale hopes to improve its forecasting capability by deploying Logility supply chain planning software on an iSeries server, the vendor announced last week. "Our business is very seasonal," says John Doerr, Cannondale's president of operations, "and Logility will help improve our planning accuracy tremendously by enabling corporate sales, operations, finance, and marketing to generate a one-number forecast." The Bethel, Connecticut, manufacturer will use Logility's Voyager Solutions suite to reconcile demand history, orders, trends, and other information, which should give the company a thorough understanding of demand by SKU (stock keeping unit), by customer, and by region.

LANSA's professional services division has helped to set up Web sites for five OS/400 local user groups running on an OS/400 server, LANSA announced last week. Several years ago, some user group members spoke with LANSA about setting up a Web site that would let them communicate more effectively with their members. As a result, LANSA created a single design that helped five groups--including the Association of Midrange Computer Users/Atlanta Midrange Users Exchange, in Atlanta; the Association of iSeries Corporate Computing Professionals, in the San Francisco Bay area; the First Coast IBM Midrange Users Group, in Jacksonville, Florida; the Application Systems User Group of Greater Cleveland; and the *Base AS/400 iSeries User Group, in Evansville, Indiana--to design, monitor, and enhance their Web sites. Each of these sites is served from an AS/400 owned by CompuDesigns of Atlanta. "As long as the sites run on the iSeries, the user groups are happy,” says Jeff Silberberg, AMCU/AIM's Webmaster. "We wanted a nice look and an easy-to-use site, and we wanted our sites to be hosted on an iSeries. We proved it can be done."
