  RSS News Feed Information

IT Jungle has just installed a server that supports Real Simple Syndication (RSS). For those of you who like to gather and aggregate your news through an RSS reader, you now have that option for IT Jungle publications.

We have RSS feeds for the following newsletters: The Four Hundred, Four Hundred Stuff, The Linux Beacon, Four Hundred Guru, The Windows Observer, and The Unix Guardian. (Four Hundred Monitor does not have a feed, since it is, in its own way, already a news aggregator.) We have also created an RSS feed for our Breaking News section, which we will be pumping up with more timely news coverage in 2005.

If you have never used an RSS reader before, the technology lives up to its name: it's real simple. Go get an RSS reader. At IT Jungle, we use one called RssReader. Download and install the reader on your machine. Then, to add one of the IT Jungle newsletters to that reader, go to the letter and click on the icon for that letter. (We have the RSS XML links for all of our letters at the bottom right of our homepage as well.) That will load an XML document on your screen, which is what drives the RSS reader. Cut and paste the address of that XML document into your RSS reader and you're done. Now, as we update content for that newsletter, your RSS reader will be updated and you will be able to read that newsletter from inside the reader.
