Bsafe and Satyam Partner for System i and z Security

Published: January 7, 2008

by Timothy Prickett Morgan

Israeli System i security software maker Bsafe Solutions is teaming up Indian information technology services company Satyam Computer Services that will see the latter company peddle security services to its growing customer base.

Under the deal announced in December, Satyam, which is based in the tech center of Hyderabad, India, and has 45,700 IT staffers doing engineering and application development work, will create a services offering that will deploy Bsafe's Enterprise Security suite to System i and System z customers who not only want to manage security on these boxes, but on the Windows and Linux servers that are attached to them as well. One of the key aspects of the service being sold by Satyam is the cross-platform security auditing that was added to the Enterprise Security suite in April 2007. Development for the service based on the Bsafe software is already completed, and is installed at a number of Satyam customer sites.

"Satyam and Bsafe have made it much more manageable for us to meet our auditing compliance requirements and our system integrity requirements," explained Sainath Gawde, manager of IT operations for HDFC Standard Life Insurance, a private insurance company based in India that is the result of a partnership between Housing Development Finance Corporation, which provides home owner financing in India, and Standard Life, a life insurance provider based in the United Kingdom. "By using this tool in conjunction with our system servers, we've been able to track daily activities of both our external developers and internal users in a single log," said Gawde. "It is now easy and fast for us to get any details of changes to the system which have an auditing or system integrity impact."

Under the deal, Satyam is delivering the Bsafe-based product as a service and actually manages it on a day-to-day basis for its clients. So this is not just a straight reseller agreement.
