How Is the iSeries Linux Market Shaping Up?
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

After all the noise that people (myself included) made about supporting Linux on the iSeries platform a few years ago, people are still trying to figure out what to do with Linux on the iSeries. And they are doing so in a near vacuum of information about how other companies are using Linux on the iSeries or other eServer platforms. But IBM, which is pushing the most Linux iron right now, has a very good idea what is going on. READ MORE >

by Alex Woodie

J.D. Edwards announced its first-quarter financial results two weeks ago, but instead of the ERP giants' return to profitability, the story making the rounds concerned the legal action that has been taken against J.D. Edwards by at least 10 of the earliest adopters of the OneWorld ERP suite. J.D. Edwards acknowledges that OneWorld had problems when it started shipping in 1998, but says those problems have all been resolved, and vigorously defends the quality of the software it's shipping today. IBM Promises Quadruple Performance with Power5 Servers
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

The code name of the future Power5 servers from IBM was changed some time in the past few weeks. "Armada" servers, kickers to the current "Regatta" Power4-based machines sold in the iSeries line, are now being called the "Squadron" family of servers. At PartnerWorld in New Orleans two weeks ago, Bill Zeitler, the executive in charge of IBM's Systems Group, said the Power5 machines will offer four times the performance of the current Regatta boxes. As I See It: Caring Leadership--The Leader As Servant
by Victor Rozek

Recently a friend and I went out for dinner at a reasonably fashionable restaurant. When the waitress came to our table we noticed she was quite young and new to her profession, but she was also very earnest and eager to please. We ordered wine and off she went only to return sans wine but with an apology: "Sorry, we're out of the wine you requested." She stood there anxiously, shifting from foot to foot, so I smiled and asked what she might recommend instead. She glanced at the wine list and beamed: "I recommend the cesspool." READ MORE >
