iSeries ISVs Elated as IBM Opens Roadmap and Wallet
by Dan Burger

Heading into one of its most important weeks of the year--the annual PartnerWorld gathering of business partners--IBM hoped to juice up the iSeries faithful by infusing the platform's marketing plan with cash and a program to re-energize iSeries independent software vendors (ISVs). These ISVs have needed some help from Big Blue in a very tough small and medium business market for quite some time. READ MORE >

Future "Cell" Power Processors Can Run OS/400
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

A few weeks ago, IBM and its partners, electronics makers Sony and Toshiba, announced some of the details of its forthcoming "Cell" processor at the International Solid State Circuits Conference in San Francisco. IBM's Chiphopper Tools to Help Build iSeries Apps
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

At the spring LinuxWorld expo in Boston, IBM rolled out a new toolset for its independent software developer partners called Chiphopper, which allows companies to more easily code Linux applications that run across the X86, Itanium, and Power processors used in IBM's own eServer products. While the Chiphopper tools will not bolster the position of RPG and COBOL applications or the OS/400 operating system, they will bring more applications to the multi-platform iSeries server. This sure beats the alternative. READ MORE >

Security Niches Filled as Public Security Lapses Mount
by Alex Woodie

Maybe Paris Hilton's first go-round in a public display of her private assets was a shrewd PR stunt, but the second certainly was not. A hacker posted the contents of her cell phone's address book on the Internet after gaining access to her account on a T-Mobile server. New products from GST and Original Software can help protect companies during such security nightmares. READ MORE >
