ACOM Taps Standard Data to Peddle Document Management App

ACOM Solutions, which sells a content management program called EZContentManager for i platforms, has announced a value added reseller agreement with Standard Data Corporation, an IT company with a long history that makes the entire midrange look like a bunch of whippersnappers.

ACOM is, of course, familiar to the IBM midrange. The company's flagship EZContentManager program may run on Windows, but it is aimed squarely at the i platform and the unique kinds of spool files and documents that the box creates, as well as the kinds of documents that end users generate on their PCs and often store on the i platform in its Integrated File System (IFS). The reseller agreement between ACOM and Standard Data comes hot on the heels of ACOM's launch of EZContentManager version 3.6, which we told you about last week.

Standard Data was founded in 1959, five years before IBM launched the System/360 mainframe and 10 years before the System/3 midrange card whalloper (the ancient great-great-great-great-great grandfather of the Power Systems i, depending on how you count the generations) came to market. Standard Data sells application hosting and content management solutions, and does a variety of claims processing for pension funds, unions, and employers. The company is headquartered in Jersey City, New Jersey, and in a testament to the amount of horsepower in an entry Power Systems i box these days, Standard Data runs many of its applications on a Power 520 box, which is linked by high-speed fiber optic lines to an image processing center in Ewing, New Jersey, a data capture facility in Farmingdale, New York, and data entry facilities in Jamaica, Hyderabad (India) and Manila (Philippines).

"Image processing is a major component of what we do," says Robert Tomaselli, Standard Data's vice president. "It is a major contributor to our revenue stream and a significant challenge to many of our customers. Prior to our relationship with ACOM, we used another company's imaging and document storage solution for several years. When that company was acquired, we sensed a decline in service and support and decided to look elsewhere. In ACOM, we saw an opportunity to maintain our momentum with a company that was committed to making its content management solution work for us."

As part of the VAR arrangement, Standard Data will peddle EZContentManager on behalf of ACOM for customers to install in their own facilities and will also offer a hosted version of the application for users who want to pay Standard Data to host the app and their data.
