As expected, the board of IDION Technology Holdings, the parent company of midrange high availability and clustering software vendor Vision Solutions, has rejected the $6 million hostile takeover offer that rival DataMirror launched last month. As we said back in March, DataMirror is going to have to pony up a lot more cash if it wants to get IDION's investors and management on board with a takeover.
iSeries high availability software vendor Vision Solutions last week started shipping Symbiator 4.0, the company's cross-platform data replication software. Meanwhile, the Irvine, California, company has entered into a high availability partnership with Swedish ERP vendor Interactive Business Systems. As part of the deal, IBS has successfully adapted its OS/400-based ERP application, ASW, to run in iSeries clusters and has achieved ClusterProven certification from IBM.
Pfastship Worldwide Logistics last week announced it has entered into an alliance with V3 Systems, a company that writes warehouse management and supply chain software. As a result of the alliance, Pfasthip-2000, Pfasthip's shipping automation software, has been certified to work with V3 Systems' software, providing a link from V3 Systems' software to a variety of peripherals, including barcode scanners, printers, and shipping scales. Pfasthip-2000 also provides a link to tracking systems from shippers such as UPS and FedEx.
Turbolinux last week announced the general availability of Turbolinux 7 Server for eServer iSeries, the latest version of its Linux operating system for the OS/400 platform. Turbolinux 7 for iSeries is the first Linux distribution to support IBM's new ODBC driver for accessing the DB2/400 database from iSeries Linux. This distribution also includes IBM's Java 1.3.1 and is based on the 64-bit Linux kernel, which IBM is expected to support in iSeries Linux partitions with the next release of OS/400.
OS/400 security tool provider PowerTech Group last week announced two new additions to its team. Sudhir Nair has been hired as PowerTech's new vice president of product development, and Darrell Reising as its new vice president of sales. Nair comes to PowerTech from Armature, a company that writes software for retailers, and he also held positions at Hewlett-Packard, Informix, and Endura Software. Reising comes to PowerTech from VoteHere, a company that develops secure electronic and online voting systems. Before that, Reising held positions with Onyx Software>, and held sales and marketing positions with IBM for 18 years. There have been several personnel moves at PowerTech of late. Earlier this month, John Vanderwall and Carol Woodbury, who was IBM's OS/400 security architect for 10 years, left the company to form SkyView Partners. In February, Bruce Leader was hired as the company's new CEO to replace David O'Neal, who founded the company and continues as its vice president.
