by Timothy Prickett Morgan

Back in the summer of 2002, some renegades within IBM proposed a different kind of packaging and pricing for the entry iSeries line, and this was eventually productized as the "Green Streak" promotion. The success of that promotion in boosting sales resulted in the revamping of the iSeries line in January 2003; a similar iSeries pilot program based on pricing was used in Europe prior to the i5 launch last summer. Now the marketeers at Big Blue are running their tests again, with cut-throat pricing on various middleware on the i5 520 entry server. READ MORE >

PeopleSoft Founder Duffield Readies New ERP Software
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

If you were the founder of one of the largest application software development firms in history, and if the CEO that you put in place several years ago so you could relax a little got into a hostile takeover situation with his former employer--which happened to be in the same application software business--and that former employer ended up acquiring your company and making you hopping mad and stinking rich at the same time, what would you do? Oracle Apps on the iSeries: It Depends on What Your Definition of "Support" Is
by Mary Lou Roberts

Those users of J.D. Edwards software on the iSeries with a propensity toward mistrust of large corporations--say, for example, Oracle and IBM--may pore over the information posted on Oracle's Web site, working hard to read between the lines about Oracle's professed long-term commitment to support the JDE product line. And there's plenty of opportunity to do so. The "Oracle--IBM iSeries Frequently Asked Questions" section, for example, contains plenty of statements vague enough to keep a paranoid happy for weeks. As I See It: Chain of Command
by Victor Rozek

Hierarchical organizations have strict reporting structures. God, after all, gave the tablets to Moses, not to the rank and file idolaters. And not just anyone was allowed to climb the mountain and commune directly with the CEO of the spirit. Hierarchical organizations require that everyone know their place and adhere to it.
