Maxava Strengthens Euro Team, Readies iFoundation Grant Awards

Published: June 25, 2012

by Dan Burger

Regardless of the economic maladies that have Europe tied in knots, the IT market is managing to keep its head above water, even if gains are likely to be fractional at best. It's times like these when some companies move forward, looking to create an advantage that will pay off when the economy returns to something closer to normal. For example, last week the high availability and disaster recovery software vendor Maxava announced the addition of two senior-level executives to its European team.

The company has operated in the European region for 12 years from its office in the United Kingdom. However, Italy, The Netherlands, and Germany have fueled recent increases in its client base, which then led to an expansion of Maxava personnel. The European customer list includes well-known firms such as Bentley, Kuehne & Nagel, Weidenhammer, ND Logistics, and BP.

Maxava looks to develop deeper connections to the IBM partner community and expects to grow through existing and prospective customers in Europe as a result of hiring Anders Winther, a former IBMer with more than 10 years experience as a senior manager and director with IBM Denmark, and Gerben Meeuwes, who has more than eight years in IBM Power sales management roles with IBM Netherlands.

Maxava CEO Allan Campbell commented on the European emphasis in a prepared statement that touted the experience and understanding of the IBM i market that the new sales executives bring. "[They] will allow us to better communicate our message around reliable, quality, and easily managed HA/DR solutions to IBM i focused partners and end users across Europe, the Middle East and Africa."

"Our global growth strategy includes ensuring we have the right sales leadership in every market and adding Anders and Gerben to our European team, alongside our existing technical team, further cements our commitment to providing our partners and customers with a seamless experience" added Andrew Mansfield, vice president of Maxava's global sales in the same statement.

Andrew Clews, vice president of marketing and business development, said in an email to IT Jungle that Maxava recently completed a business review that determined the company was "under-resourced in Europe in terms of our ability to match both the market potential and expectations of prospective partners and customers. We continue to see a ramp-up of activity and interest in HA/DR solutions for IBM i in many parts of the world, with Europe being no exception."

Clews went on to say Maxava's success with customers and partners is attributable to technology such as remote management and monitoring and that the company is also attracting customers in both Europe and the United States with its cloud-based offerings.

iFoundation Grant Application Deadline

Maxava has also made a name for itself through its creation of the iFoundation, a program for supporting grass roots efforts to support the IBM i community. In 2011, iFoundation, distributed $45,000 in grant awards to not-for-profit organizations--primarily local user groups--that benefit the IBM i platform.

This year Maxava is continuing its iFoundation grants, and the cut-off date for organizations to apply for the awards is June 30. Local user groups and educational institutions have less than a week to make their cases for funding. The grant application form can be downloaded here.

Recipients of the financial awards will be notified by July 31.
