IBM Sells Its First iSeries Model 890 Regatta-H Server
by Timothy Prickett Morgan
It might have the highest price tag of any OS/400 server yet built, but IBM has already sold its first iSeries Model 890 "Regatta-H" server. The first iSeries Model 890 is going to Apria Healthcare , a home healthcare equipment and services provider based in the Los Angeles suburb of Lake Forest. One of the driving factors behind Apria's acquisition of the monster iSeries machine is that it wants to consolidate its data centers to save money. READ MORE >

IBM Leans on Business Partner Channel to Push Server Sales
by Timothy Prickett Morgan
If one thing has been consistent about IBM's server strategy over the past decade, it's that it wants to drive as many server shipments as possible through its business partner channel and derive as much revenue as it can from that channel. The effect of this channel-oriented sales approach is that more and more customers have a third party, not IBM, as their main IBM contact, and this is changing their relationship with Big Blue. The Edge of the Wedge: Where Does Linux on the iSeries Stand?
by Dan Burger
Dave Boutcher is one of IBM's top people dealing with the development and architecture of Linux on the iSeries. He has worked in the trenches turning out code; has set up environments where OS/400, Linux, and AIX operate in partitions on the iSeries; goes out and talks with customers who are interested in Linux; and is involved in planning strategies that shape the future of these seemingly incongruous operating systems. Entry Regatta Servers Debut in pSeries Line
by Timothy Prickett Morgan
Just as everybody was getting ready for the Fourth of July holiday, IBM announced the pSeries 630 "Regatta-LE" entry servers, its first small machines using the Power4 processor. IBM has announced these entry servers a little ahead of when it can actually ship them, on August 30, so it can build up a decent backlog of sales. The Regatta-LE servers will not be sold with an iSeries brand this year, but are expected in the iSeries line perhaps by early summer in 2003. READ MORE >

Admin Alert: Changing OS/400 IP Addresses
by Joe Hertvik
If you work with an iSeries or AS/400 long enough, OS/400 IP address changes are inevitable. IP address changes come quickly and result when your machine changes network segments, buildings, states, or owners. IP changes create their own challenges for iSeries owners, so let's take a few minutes to construct a roadmap for how OS/400 IP changes should be made. Before you even think about attempting a change, do your homework and make sure you document the following items. READ MORE >
