Some Insight Into Those Future Power7+ Processors
by Timothy Prickett Morgan
A few weeks ago, I told you that IBM was getting ready to start talking about its future Power7+ and System zNext processors at the Hot Chips conference at the end of August. Like you, I am an impatient sort when it comes to getting some insight into future processors from any vendor, and I like to poke around and see what I can find out about these chips as soon as possible because it is interesting and useful to know as much as possible as soon as possible. by Timothy Prickett Morgan
System management, security, and database query software maker Help/Systems has been on an acquisition tear for the past six years, and has done it again with a deal to buy British security software maker Safestone Technologies. IBM i Marketing Plans Get The iManifest Touch
by Dan Burger
Boosting the public image of the IBM i operating system is a pretty steep mountain to climb. It is widely misunderstood, often mischaracterized, and repeatedly underestimated by those who are less familiar with it than they are with nuclear fusion. Any faithful follower of the IT Jungle publications knows about iManifest and how the Japanese have used it for brand-specific promotions while it has remained bed-ridden in the United States and the European, Middle East, and Africa markets. As I See It: The Visionary
by Victor Rozek
He was a world-class marathon runner, but he is not known for that. He was a defender of human rights, but neither is he known for that. He is better remembered for having shortened a long and terrible war, and for being an originator of the field that remade the world in the last half-century. That field is computer science, and his name is Alan Turing. Yet given his many achievements and with everything to live for, why then did he commit suicide at the age of 42? READ MORE >

by Alex Woodie
As business computing workloads are being moved from on-premise locations into the cloud, it begs the question: What happens to the personal computing environments that people rely on to access legacy client/server applications? Many cloud apps can be accessed directly from a Web browser, but some apps still require a full client running under a Windows or Linux operating system. In June, IBM announced a new virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solution aimed at bridging the gap between client/server apps and the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) revolution. READ MORE >
