More on IBM's iSeries Announcements
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

We told you last week about the new geared down iSeries Model 870 machine that IBM announced to fill a big performance gap between the Model 825 and the Model 870 in the revamped iSeries line. That wasn't all that IBM announced, however. There are lots of other things that will be of interest to OS/400 shops, plus IBM previewed two future iSeries servers that will make it less costly for OS/400 shops to do disaster recovery and high availability clustering. IBM pSeries Power4+ Tops TPC-C, but Where's the iSeries?
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

A few weeks ago, when the "Madison" Itanium 2 processors were announced by Intel, the company spent a lot of time bashing IBM's Power4+ line of pSeries RISC/Unix servers. Hyperion Buys Brio, Glimpse of BI's Future Provided
by Dan Burger

The shake-out from the announced merger of business intelligence (BI) software companies Hyperion and Brio will get some notice at iSeries shops where Hyperion software is currently installed and where BI projects are being planned by companies that fit mostly into the Fortune 1,000 category. Although the addition of Brio technology will have little initial affect on iSeries users, the long-term effects could be dramatic. It's easy to imagine this merger being an indicator of future iSeries BI directions. READ MORE >

Admin Alert: Curing the Access-to-ODBC Blues
by Joe Hertvik

In some shops, it's common to update an OS/400 database by using a Microsoft Access database and an ODBC driver. While this method is relatively simple, it may result in some strange errors that aren't very-well documented. Mad Dog 21/21: Novel Ideas
by Hesh Wiener

When Madonna's children's book, The English Roses, debuts on September 15, it will appear in 42 languages. Even the latest Harry Potter book, which sold millions of copies on its first day out, did not match this achievement. But they share one important distinction, something that another best-seller, the OS/400 operating system, does not. If you buy either book, you can enjoy it to your heart's content and then, if you wish, give it or sell it to somebody else. READ MORE >
