There's a New iSeries General Manager in Town
by Timothy Prickett Morgan
The iSeries server business got a new general manager last week, and tongues immediately started to wag about what the changing of the chairs among the upper decks at IBM might mean not only for the iSeries but for IBM in general. Al Zollar, the previous GM for the iSeries unit, had that job for about 18 months, which is a little shy of the normal tenure, but is not the shortest time anyone has had that job. READ MORE >

What's more, many vendors offer a variety of migration programs to ease the pain of moving to their wares. READ MORE >

Red Hat Previews Linux 3 Update 3
by Timothy Prickett Morgan
Commercial Linux distributor Red Hat is talking up its forthcoming tweak of its Enterprise Linux 3, Update 3. In Red Hat nomenclature, an update is akin to a dot release for a Unix operating system and what Microsoft calls a Service Pack in its Windows environment. Update 3 for Enterprise Linux 3 will have the usual round of bug and security patches, but it will also include support for new security features and IBM's Power5-based "Squadron" servers.
