Vision Solution Extends HA and DR Reach in Latin America

The Latin American market for IBM's Power Systems has caught the eye of high availability and disaster recovery vendor Vision Solutions, which last week announced partner agreements with several leading distributors in Mexico, Central America, and South America. Included in this agreement are Avnet Technology Solutions, the solutions distribution leader and an operating group of Avnet, and SISA of Colombia.

"The potential for opportunity and growth throughout this part of the world is tremendous," says Miguel Flis, vice president of sales for Vision Solutions. "The number of companies searching for a reliable high availability solution at an affordable price is significant."

Avnet Technology Solutions has more than 20 years of experience in working with value-added resellers in Mexico. The company distributes enterprise computing systems, software, storage, networking solutions, and services. It exclusively markets to the value-added reseller channel. In Mexico, Avnet Technology Solutions has offices in Monterrey and Mexico City.

SISA is the largest Power Systems distributor in Colombia. It specializes in systems integration and management of technology business solutions. The company consists of nearly 150 employees. Several are trained experts on Vision Solutions' EchoStream and EchoCluster technologies. The company is planning to host customer events throughout the region.

In October 2008, Vision announced a distribution agreement with IBM for the i platform that puts Cluster1 into the conversation when IBM's Systems and Technology Group makes its sales presentations. It provides Vision Solutions with visibility from the early stages of project planning rather than being considered an add-on later in the development of a clustering project. When IBM is driving the sale, this might bring visibility to Vision Solutions and provide a potential customer with some flexibility and some needed features in implementing a high availability environment. In August 2008, it announced a partner agreement to expand its reach in the Asia/Pacific region.

The company also released a report last fall based on the survey results of 2,000 IT professionals showing a significant percentage of companies are overestimating their disaster recovery by predominantly relying on tape-based methods. Vision executives say "to expect tape to support RPOs (recovery point objectives) of one hour or less is just not realistic."

The new Latin American partnerships will emphasize the importance of investing sufficient time and resources to meet disaster recovery goals you can be sure.
