IBM Clarifies One Green Streak Deal, Adds Another

IBM two weeks ago announced the Green Streak promotion, to help increase sales of its Model 270 and Model 820 iSeries servers with hardware discounts of 50 percent and additional discounts on Software Subscription services. IBM then issued an announcement late last week, clarifying some elements of that deal and announcing a companion deal that provides rebates on iSeries server purchases and 25 percent discounts on selected iSeries educational products from IBM. IBM Buys PricewaterhouseCoopers IT Consulting Biz

In a surprise move last week, IBM, which generally shuns making big acquisitions, except on rare occasions, ponied up $3.5 billion to buy the IT consulting unit of accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers. PwC Consulting was once the object of desire of CEO Carly Fiorina of Hewlett-Packard, who balked at paying $18 billion for the unit, and the failure of that deal is what drove HP to acquire rival Compaq earlier this year. PwC Consulting is a much better fit for an increasingly services-oriented IBM. READ MORE >
