PowerTech Picks New President and CEO

Published: September 18, 2006

i5/OS and OS/400 security software firm the PowerTech Group has a new head honcho, the company announced last week.

Jonathan Scott, who comes to PowerTech with experience from a number of high tech companies, has been appointed president and chief executive officer at PowerTech. He takes over from Bruce Leader, who released a statement about Scott's appointment to the privately held company, which is based in Seattle, Washington. "Jon is the perfect leader to build on the company's remarkable success and to provide leadership in developing new products and services and expanding into new markets," said Leader." The new corporate identity, and the new Web site especially, will be key tools in communicating the degree to which PowerTech leads the way in this industry. He is joining the company at a time when our product, Compliance Monitor, is enjoying unparalleled success in the marketplace, breaking all standard adoption metrics."

Scott was previously president and CEO of Microserv Technology Services, which was acquired by Halifax in September 2003 for $3 million. Both Microserv and Halifax are experts in providing application software and services related to the hardware maintenance business. Before joining Microserv, Scott was founder and principal at New Venture Associates, which provided strategic advice to high-tech startups. He was also president and chief operating officer at Traveling Software, which has changed its company name to LapLink, which is the name of that company's famous connectivity software for linking PCs and laptops together.

In addition to appointing Scott to the president and CEO positions, PowerTech has also announced a new brand mark and a new Web site. PowerTech has over 800 customers worldwide, and its Compliance Monitor software is used to audit and report on who has access to the sensitive information and applications that companies store on their AS/400, iSeries, and i5 servers. Such software is used to cope with myriad compliance regulations.
