COMMON's Top Concerns Survey Points to Growing e-Business Need
by Alex Woodie

For the first time in more than three years, COMMON has released a "top concerns" report, a compilation of the most pressing IT-related issues facing COMMON members. According to the report, based on surveys of 585 people conducted in 2001, organizations are much more concerned about the integration of the Internet into company processes than they were three years ago. While this finding shouldn't come as a shock to anyone, it does indicate that e-business is growing on the OS/400 platform. READ MORE >

Admin Alert: Where's My QSTRUP Start-Up Job Log?
by Joe Hertvik

I recently modified an OS/400 system start-up program (QSTRUP) to start another process at system start-up. Taking the reins of business development at LANSA is a new role for Al Grega. But it is far from uncharted territory. LANSA, the Oak Brook, Illinois, developer of OS/400 tools and Web solutions, chose Grega to fill this critical position because he brings more than 23 years of IT experience--in business development, sales, marketing, and project management--from IBM. He'll be counted on to increase e-business sales and market share, a tough job in a highly competitive market. READ MORE >

Stampede's TurboGold EE Boosts Domino/Notes Performance
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

Stampede Technologies has spent years developing and installing software that speeds up the performance of IBM's Lotus Notes/Domino messaging and groupware software, which known as much for its sluggishness as it is for its elegance. As I See It: Just Doing My Job
by Victor Rozek

Assume the economy cycles out of recession and corporations are again scrambling to hire knowledgeable IT personnel. If you had the option to work for one of several companies, how would you choose? Compensation? Advancement opportunity? Interesting work? Probably not one person in a hundred would make the decision based on the type of business a company conducts. Whether this oversight results from cultural catalepsy or willful inattention, it is, I believe, the greatest business scandal of our time. READ MORE >
