The "P" Word
by Timothy Prickett Morgan
From time to time, as you might expect, I say things that annoy an IT vendor or two. (I know you are shocked, simply shocked, by this admission, but it is true.) Like most of us, I sometimes say something without thinking about it, or something that is no longer PC--as in politically correct, not personal computer. What I said in last week's issue was not all that horrible. It was no egregious statement on social or cultural phenomenon. It was not the kind of evil thing that some people think with only a percentage of them being fools enough to say those nefarious thoughts and beliefs out loud and, thankfully, exposing themselves for the closed-minded buffoons they are. IBM Gives Rebates and Trade Ins to Push the i5 520 in Q4
by Timothy Prickett Morgan
IBM may not have announced the entry-level, feeder i5 machine that many of us would love to see the company bring to market, but it is playing around with some deals in the fourth quarter specifically aimed at promoting the single-socket i5 520 servers. Why i for the Casino Industry?
by Mary Lou Roberts
If you frequent a casino and play the slots, roll the dice at the craps table, or double-down when the dealer shows a six at the blackjack table, chances are fairly good that somewhere nearby, an iSeries is chugging away. Even before the OS/400 platform had any of its recent names, the gaming industry has been one of the strongholds for the iSeries and its predecessors. READ MORE >

Stop Arguing About Cars and Start Managing Fleets
by Dan Olds
A lot of what I hear and read from IT analysts, vendors and the industry press reminds me of guys in my high school arguing about cars. Ford versus Chevy, superchargers versus turbochargers, and even a few posers arguing the merits of Ferrari versus Lamborghini engineering and performance.
