IBM Dynamic Infrastructure Announcements Due October 20

The details are not clear, but it looks like IBM is getting ready for another slew of server, storage, and systems software announcements on October 20, all being done under the Dynamic Infrastructure umbrella that Big Blue has been using since last year.

According to this note on Arrow Electronics's Enterprise Computing Systems site, "IBM will introduce expanded capabilities to help organizations move toward a more dynamic infrastructure--with emphasis on new workload-optimized systems, new service management capabilities, and new Information Infrastructure offerings that enable clients to reduce costs and drive information-led transformation."

On IBM's own educational site, there is this posting, which refers to a Dynamic Infrastructure Education Virtual Event for IBM's resellers. "To prepare you to talk to clients and prospects about the cross-IBM, October 20 Dynamic Infrastructure announcement, we will present a host of new offerings for software, services, servers, storage, networking, financing and IBM CloudBurst solutions for a dynamic infrastructure," the posting says. This event was hosted on October 13.

And according to this page in Google cache, Stephen Leonard, vice president of sales for the North America region at IBM's Systems and Technology Group is hosting the Dynamic Infrastructure Executive Summit from October 20 through 22 with "an elite group" of peers "in an inspiring environment, where you will be able to exchange insights, share success stories and explore best practices with many of the most influential corporate minds in North America." This event is being held at the Pinehurst Resort outside of Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina, which is IBM's System x stomping grounds.

It is not clear what will be announced on October 20, but the word on the street is that there will be new iDataPlex dx360 M2 servers, as well as new System x3200 M3 and System x3250 M3 servers, the former most likely a two-socket Xeon box and the latter a two-socket Opteron box. I am also hearing that there will be a slew of I/O enhancements for the Power Systems line, and some storage announcements as well.

The public gets a chance to see what is going on at a Webcast that IBM is hosting at 11 a.m. Eastern time, which you can find out about here. Four of IBM's top brass will be hosting this call, including Rod Adkins, senior vice president of development and manufacturing for Systems and Technology Group; Curtis Tearte, general manager of the Storage Systems division of STG; Rich Esposito, vice president of middleware services for Global Technology Services; and Al Zollar, general manager of the Tivoli Software division at Software Group and formerly the general manager of the System i business.
