iSeries Salaries Are Shaping Up to Rise 2006
by Timothy Prickett Morgan
It's that time of the year again. Not only are you looking ahead to the holiday season and lots of cheer, but you have probably sat through your annual review or soon will. And you are also keeping a careful eye on the IT manager and bean counters your boss keeps meeting with as they work together to figure out what the IT budget is going to look like in 2006 and, more importantly, what your cut of the loot is going to be. IBM Identifies Hot Markets for iSeries Growth
by Mary Lou Roberts
As one might expect, IBM tries to keep careful tabs on hot and emerging market segments across all of its product lines. This book answers that question and it also gives you information that you need to know to understand what's inside the engine of your computer and why the old maxims no longer apply.
Buy it today at the IT Jungle Online Book Store, a deal at only $29.95.

Readers Weigh in on the Hypothetical System i5 for SMB
by Timothy Prickett Morgan
It's an adage as old as newspapers: The power of the press belongs to the person who owns it. As the editor in chief and president of a newsletter publishing company and the system administrator of a server cluster in the IT Jungle home office that I lovingly call "Franklin," since it is both a stove and a printing press, I suppose that gives me a certain amount of press power--and responsibility to match. I consider IT Jungle an advocate for the customers in the markets we serve as well as a means to instructively criticize the IT vendors that provide products to the market. READ MORE >

Mad Dog 21/21: Omission Accomplished
by Hesh Wiener
In mid-September, the New York Times began charging a fee for access to some of the material on its Web site. For all these parties, there is much more to this story than a Web site's new revenue model. The Times is also risking its influence, the conceit that it can and should, as Mr Dooley said, comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. READ MORE >
