Aldon Extends Partnership with SOSY, Launches IT Action Hero Contest

Application lifecycle management software maker Aldon said last week that it has worked out a deal with a long-time partner in Europe that will see it expand its coverage. The company also announced a contest for its end-user customers called the Aldon IT Action Hero of the Year contest, and is soliciting stories from individuals, programming teams, or whole companies who have done outstanding work for their companies while using Aldon's eponymous tools.

First, the partnership extension. Back in July, as we previously reported, Aldon inked a distribution partnership agreement with SOSY, a distributor of i5/OS and OS/400 products based near Copenhagen, Denmark, designating SOSY as its distributor in the Nordic region. The Danish company was founded in 1989, shortly after the launch of the original AS/400s, and has sold the Robot systems management and automation products from Help/Systems, high availability software from DataMirror (which was just acquired by IBM), and software change management tools from Aldon's former main rival, SoftLanding Systems (which was acquired by Unicom Systems in October 2006).

As part of the extended agreement announced last week, now SOSY has been given the right to chase deals peddling the Aldon Suite in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. "SOSY is very excited about our expansion into the new markets with the Aldon ALM solution," said Helle Mering, managing director of SOSY, in a statement put out by Aldon. "We expect the German speaking territories to become a major part of our business within a short time with Aldon's help. With Germany being the largest System i market in Europe, we look forward to growing the Aldon business across both the System i and multi-platform markets."

The other news from Aldon last week was the IT Action Hero contest, which allows you to nominate one of your colleagues for doing cool stuff with ALM software from Aldon so they have to make the speech that you really don't want to. The contest is open until December 10, and Aldon wants to hear your story--with the names changed to that aforementioned colleague you want to embarrass, of course--in 250 words or less about how you jumped tall buildings to finish a critical project and dramatically improved the productivity of your business through programming acumen. First prize is a Nintendo Wii game console (works great with the plasma display in the conference room), second prize is a pair of BOSE noise canceling headphones (great for meetings with upper management), and third prize is a $50 certificate to the ThinkGeek Web store.
