Aberdeen and IBM Team Up for Midmarket Security Assessments

IT market researcher Aberdeen Group and IBM have teamed up to offer midrange IT shops a survey-driven security assessment tool to help them figure out how secure their IT assets are.

The survey does not involve submitting your systems to any kind of probing by either Aberdeen or IBM, but is rather driven by a database of survey information based on 30,000 midrange shops that Aberdeen has talked to in the past two years, and then its reckoning of what best practices in terms of server, client, and network security should be. After taking the 10-minute survey, Aberdeen tells you how you compare to your midrange peers, and presumably now Aberdeen and IBM have a door to send the salespeople a-knocking on. You don't get nothing for free in this here world, as you well know.

IBM apparently had a hand in helping create the security assessment tool, as you will learn from this familiar voice. "Together with Aberdeen, IBM has developed an online tool that can help midsize companies find security holes quickly and prioritize their strategic actions," explained Marc Dupaquier, general manager of global midmarket at IBM. "Not only does this new security assessment tool help identify security issues, it also will help clients solve those issues and comply with government regulations." You will remember, of course, that Dupaquier was briefly put in charge of the Business Systems division that now controls the marketing fate of low-end and midrange Power and X64 servers.
